Corum’s matchless Golden Bridge has won the Public Prize in the «Watch of the Year 2005» contest.

The new watch has been appreciated by readers of L’Hebdo, Cash and Edelweiss magazines, who gave their preference to this model that rivaled other 42 candidates. It was awarded the trophy in the prestige «Watch of the Year» competition held by «Montres Passion» and «Uhrenwelt».

Jean-Philippe Arm, a jury-member, presented the Prize of the Watch of the Year to Michael Wunderman, President of Corum, during the prize award ceremony that took part at La Manufacture, the Academy of Dramatic Art for the French-speakers of Switzerland, in Lausanne, on 2 November, 2005.

Since 7 November until the middle of February 2006, the Golden Bridge has been exhibited exclusively at the International Watchmaking Museum in La Chaux-de-Fonds together with 41 other exceptional watches which got over to the final part of the competition.

It is not the first time Corum timepieces have been chosen to become the winner of the title. In 2002, the Montres Passion and Uhrenwelt jury gave the prize to Corum’s Classical Jumping Hour model.

The company has revived a revolutionary timepiece that was born 25 years ago in honor of its 50th anniversary in 2005. The universally renowned Golden Bridge watch in its new interpretation presents a fresh design fit for recent cutting edge technologies. This great watch improves the wonderful purity characteristic of the original version.

Anyone would get fascinated by Corum’s new Golden Bridge model: baguette-shaped 18 carat gold bridges, perfectly hand-engraved with charming rolling patterns, tiny gears lined up together, and slim open-worked black gold hands, that seem to be suspended in the space invented by the transparence of the four sapphire crystals enveloping the case. The case is featured in fine 18 carat gold or platinum ribs, with a tonneau-shape and inwardly curved down to provide a feeling of special comfort on the wrist.

The watch is powered by the miniature mechanical movement with a variable inertia balance adjustable by means of four 18 carat gold inertia-blocks. The movement has been completely redesigned and developed in cooperation with the prominent Swiss manufacturer Vaucher of Fleurier. The watch has been supplied by slipping spring winding system and 40 hours power-reserve that make possible to place the winding and time-setting crown at 6 o’clock between the horns of the case.

The new Corum’s Golden Bridge has been created in several variations. The renowned contemporary Swiss artist Hans Erni assisted in the creation of this unique timepiece and painted two strong pure breed horses facing each other. The image has been performed in miniature and then hand-painted on the dial below the movement. The company has also produced a special 50th anniversary commemorative model that is presented in four editions: platinum, yellow gold, rose gold and white gold.

The Public Prize in the “Watch of the Year 2005” competition is a great victory for Corum that has excellently marked the 50th anniversary of the company.
